Cannot backup partitions with long filenames due to not supported.
Cause:
The backup utility is not Windows 95-supported and does not support long filenames. This may cause long filenames to be destroyed during backup.
Solution:
Rename the file or use the LFNBK utility to back up and restore long filenames. Click here for instructions.
1) Locate the LFNBK folder on the installation CD-ROM or diskette and copy to the desktop:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu and select 'Find'.
b) Select 'Files or Folders...'. (The 'Find: All Files' dialog box appears.)
c) Type LFNBK in the 'Named' box.
d) Select the drive containing the Windows 95 installation diskette or CD-ROM from the 'Look in' drop-down list box.
e) Click 'Find Now'. (The dialog box expands to display the search results.)
f) Right-drag the LFNBK folder from the 'Find results' window onto the desktop.
g) Right-click the folder to display the pop-up menu.
h) Select 'Copy Here' to copy the LFNBK folder onto the desktop.
2) Close all other running programs.
3) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu, and select 'Programs'. (The 'Programs' menu appears.)
4) Select 'MS-DOS prompt'.
5) Type the following command at the prompt, and press ENTER:
LFNBK /B
6) (Optional) To report actions on a screen and to back up and remove long filenames on the hard disk, type the following at the prompt:
LFNBK /V /B
7) Run the disk utility as described in the utility instructions.
8) Restart the computer.
NOTE: When Windows 95 is restarted, the default 'Start' menu appears. The original 'Start' menu will return when restoring the long filenames.
9) Run the LFNBK utility again by typing LFNBK /R to restore the long filenames.
